In camera module testing, the ideal approach is to base the setup on the module’s nominal focal length. However, this often requires several meters of test distance, which makes the test enclosure excessively large and prevents the chart from filling the field of view. Relay lenses extend the image distance and magnify the image, enabling the chart to fill the FOV within a manageable space, fully meeting test requirements.

When selecting a relay lens, attention should be paid to:

  • Matching the FOV of the tested module

  • Determining the MDR and chart size (WDC)

  • Ensuring entrance pupil compatibility
